A young woman has told of her shock and shock when she realized what she thought were her grandmother’s ashes may belong to someone else or may not even be ashes at all.

She told Sky News: “We were devastated to think that we trusted this company and the ashes might not actually be my granny’s.”

“We waited weeks and had to make phone calls to track down (the ashes).

“However, we didn’t think much of it at the time until now and we are now obviously concerned that they could be someone else’s, or worse, not ashes at all.”

Ms Hill said her mother had spoken to police about the case and police asked the family to provide details, including a photo of the Cape Melbourne woman and any identifying features such as birthmarks or tattoos.
