The accident killed 11 people and injured nearly 200 people Fire breaks out at a firecracker factory in Hatta, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, leading to multiple explosions and triggering panic among locals in nearby areas. One person has been detained in connection with the incident.

The incident took place in the Bailaghar area on Magadha Road on the outskirts of Hatta town, about 150 kilometers from the state capital Bhopal.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and free treatment to the injured.

  • Narmadapuram divisional commissioner Pawan Kumar Sharma said 174 people have been rescued so far. “We have rescued 174 people so far. We have not received any missing reports. We will check the ruins to see if there are any bodies there. 40-50% of the debris has been removed. There have been 11 casualties so far . There are 60-70 ambulances, more than 50 fire engines, SDRF and NDRF teams here. Around 1,000 personnel from different fields are involved in the rescue operation,” Sharma said.
  • “The fire has been extinguished and the debris is being cleared from the site. Investigation into the matter is ongoing, but for now, the rescue mission is our priority,” Sharma added.
