A famous journalist has shared the meeting he had with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on a flight after their wedding in 2018.

It happened when the newlyweds were returning home from their 16-day tour of Australia in 2018, five months after their wedding.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal tour was memorable for many reasons, including Meghan’s pregnancy announcement on the eve of their first day on the tour.

Former royal correspondent and author Valentine Low described a particularly awkward moment she and other media people experienced with the Sussexes in the latest episode of A Right Royal Podcast.

“We were flying from Tonga back to Sydney. And often on these tours, there comes a point at the end when the royal can come back to the back of the plane and have an off-the-record conversation with us, you know, Not for print, but it’s a way to bond. It’s a way to keep us cozy,” Valentine told hosts Andrea Caamano, Amy Griffiths and Hello Royal editor Emily Nash.

The author revealed: “And we were promised that he or they would come after the plane, and that didn’t happen.

“It didn’t happen and it was a four or five-hour flight, ‘When is this going to happen?’ Then we were gearing up to land and we landed. And it didn’t happen.”

Valentine revealed: “And just after we landed, they came back to the back of the plane. And Harry was a little ahead of Meghan, she was a little behind him. And he didn’t say much. He made some strange comment to us. Wanted to go back for our Sunday lunch and it was totally weird.

“But what he said was memorable.

“He said ‘Thank you very much for coming, even though you weren’t invited.’ And we thought, ‘What?'”

Royal commentator Valentine described Harry’s comments to her as “rude”.
