Five people were burnt to death after their car caught fire in a collision with a bus on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura on Monday, police said.

A senior police officer said the incident took place near milepost 117 of the Agra-Noida Expressway within the limits of Mahavan police station in the morning.

“The bus and the Swift car collided. As of now, the bus’s tires burst and it veered out of control onto the road. The Swift car coming from behind hit the bus and both vehicles caught fire,” said SSP Mathura Shailesh Pandey.

Pandey said the passengers on the bus managed to evacuate, but those on board could not and all five were burnt to death.

He said one of the deceased had been identified and efforts were being made to contact his family.

Further legal proceedings are ongoing, the official added.
