Full text of Queen Camilla’s speech:

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Buckingham Palace as we gather to recognize and thank those who support survivors of sexual violence.

“Each of you has a powerful story to tell: whether you work in this country or abroad; whether you are in a shelter, a sexual assault referral centre, a charity, in Parliament, Or, most importantly, you’re a survivor.”

The 76-year-old encouraged guests in their efforts to tackle the threat to society, addressing him: “Your stories and your experiences are important tools as we seek to drive change: creating a world in which people, regardless of Whoever they are and where they are, don’t live in fear of being abused. As I’ve often heard victims say: talking about the experience is one of the main ways we survive sexual abuse today. Its form can strengthen your alliance against.

She also praised the charities that have contributed to improving the lives of survivors: “Now, we’re also here to mark the relaunch of the washbag initiative, with a big thank you to Boots and In Kind Direct, whose Washbags began as a seed of an idea in 2012, when I began learning more about sexual violence and the consequences it has on survivors. I don’t need you to remind me that every year in England and Wales alone, approximately 800,000 women and 275,000 men are victims of attempted or actual sexual harassment – although the actual figures are likely to be much higher.”

He added: “The purpose of Washbag was to create something that would be “a piece of comfort” to those who find themselves in this horrific situation. In 2017, with the support of many of you in this room, I It was a pleasure to launch this initiative at Boots’ HQ in Nottingham.

“I just mentioned how important it is to listen to survivors. Over the years I have had the privilege of meeting and receiving letters from many people who have sadly experienced sexual assault. Some have visited SARC and been given washbags. When the forensic investigation process was over, I have a copy of one such letter and I have received generous permission to quote it. This woman gave me her very Wrote about a brave daughter, whom I will call Jane.

“Two years ago, Jane attended SARC with her mother and sister for a full forensic examination just hours after the attack took place. It was described by her mother as “a terrifying, if necessary, incident”. We were getting ready to leave and were feeling very sad. Jane’s personal contact returned with a wonderful bag of toiletries and items to pamper and comfort her. Completely changed the atmosphere and lifted our mood, reminding me and my daughters of the kindness of strangers during very bad times.

“As you can imagine, this letter affected me deeply. The phrase “the kindness of strangers in a very dark time”, for me, is the guiding principle of everything you do: extending friendship to those Extending a hand to those who have been dehumanized in the most brutal ways; consoling those who have been traumatized and giving hope that physical and emotional healing is possible, as Jane can guarantee.

Queen Camilla concluded: “To each and every one of you, I would like to say – thank you. Thank you for sharing your stories, thank you for your kindness, thank you for not being strangers to those enduring the hardest times, and, most of all Above all, thank you for standing up and committing yourself to ending these heinous crimes once and for all.”
