Arvind Kejriwal moves high court after ninth summons (Documents)

New Delhi:

The Delhi High Court will on Monday hear Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging the summons issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the probe into money laundering cases related to the GST policy.

Mr Kejriwal was arrested by the agency on March 21 after the High Court refused to grant him interim protection from coercive action and he also challenged the constitutional validity of certain provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act relating to arrest, interrogation and bail. question.

The plea will be heard before a bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain.

The AAP national convener approached the high court after the ED issued the ninth summons asking him to appear before the court on March 21. On March 20, a High Court judge asked the ED to file a reply on its maintainability. petition.

The next day, it asked the ED to respond to Kejriwal’s plea seeking protection from arrest and said it did not intend to grant any interim relief “at this stage”. Kejriwal was arrested by the Education Department later that night and is currently in judicial custody.

The federal probe agency alleged that the accused contacted Mr. Kejriwal to frame the now-abandoned excise tax policy, which resulted in undue benefit to them in exchange for kickbacks from the AAP.

In his plea, Kejriwal raised several issues, including whether political parties are covered by anti-money laundering laws. It alleged that the PMLA’s arbitrary procedures were used to create an uneven playing field in the general elections to “tilt the electoral process in favor of the ruling party at center”.

The complaint describes the petitioner as a “vocal critic” of the ruling party, India’s group partner, and claims the education ministry, which controls the coalition government, has been “weaponized”.
