In a very bold move, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will block handsets used for fraudulent activities and disconnect mobile numbers. These devices and numbers were being used to defraud mobile users through text messages. The Department of Telecommunications is using the Chakshu portal, which was launched this year, to detect such telecom fraudsters. The new report provides detailed information on how the portal is working and the progress.

According to a PTI reportThe Department of Telecommunications has blacklisted 52 entities for sending phishing messages on mobiles. The portal has blocked more than 348 mobile handsets and marked 10834 suspicious mobile numbers for re-verification, out of which 8,272 mobile connections have been disconnected. DoT also replied An X user said, “The mobile number has been disconnected, and 20 related mobile handsets have been blocked for misuse in cyber crime/financial fraud. If you witness such an incident, please immediately report suspected fraud to Chakshu.

How to lodge complaint regarding mobile number in Chakshu portal

  • First of all, visit Sanchar Saathi website,https://sancharsathi.gov.in/sfc/
  • Find “Citizen Centric Services” and tap “Chakku – Report Suspected Fraudulent Communication”.
  • Now, go to Continue and enter your mobile number or email address for verification.
  • Enter the OTP received on your phone number or email address.
  • Now, you have to choose the type of communication, like call, SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Enter the sender or caller’s number, date, time along with incident details.
  • You can also add a screenshot of the message or call.
  • After adding all the details, simply tap on the “Submit” button.

Taking these few steps can help you prevent other individuals from becoming victims of mobile and online scams. Make sure to take immediate action so that the government can take prompt action to track the fraudsters.
