It was 1979, I was 10 years old and caught up in the ABBA craze that was sweeping the country.

I had a dream but little did I know it would become a reality as I not only met my heroes but sang with them on stage wembley as well as.

I remember TV presenters Keith Chegwin and Maggie Philben coming to my school, Wembley Estate, to interview us. While I can’t remember all the details, I do remember being sworn to secrecy.

We were just told a few days ago and I think we only practiced it once or twice.

Mrs. Spears, our very strict choir teacher, thought she had won the lottery. We were not the best choir in the school, but she was determined that we would seize this opportunity and not bring shame to the school.

Our first formal, full rehearsal was the afternoon of our first show. Upon arriving at the arena we were taken to a green room where we were told what to expect when we took the stage.

We were told to smile and not be intimidated by the bright lights or the noise of the crowd.

The excitement was palpable. I couldn’t believe I was about to meet Swedish sensation ABBA.

When we walked on stage I felt like I was in a dream. There they were, all sparkling and flawless. We walked to our seats, they greeted us, and we started practicing our songs.

When I sang “I Have a Dream” – it was almost like an out-of-body moment. Am I really on stage with ABBA?

We wrapped up rehearsals to have some time to rest before the evening show, and as we were leaving, the most remarkable event happened.

As we left, Agnetha kissed my right cheek. Fireworks exploded, horns sounded, and, at least in my mind, I swore I would never wash my face again.

I have renounced that vow since then.

So I played three nights at Wembley Stadium and the venue was packed. We got family tickets and my sisters and mom came to see us perform and enjoy the concert.

Every night is as exciting as the first. I remember buying an electric blue ABBA poster that adorned my bedroom wall for years. I still feel sad because I don’t know what happened.

Anyone who knows me knows that performing with ABBA is my true claim to fame. I mentioned it out of the blue and annoyed many of my colleagues with stories about my childhood stardom.

I even mentioned it on Sky and that’s how I was approached by the documentary makers of the BBC’s When ABBA Came to Britain.

Although 45 years have passed, “Mamma Mia” and “ABBA” still occupy my heart.
