The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heat wave warning for Odisha as Bhubaneswar recorded the highest temperature of the season at 43.6 degrees Celsius today.

IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty told news agency ANI that the temperature in Odisha, the capital of Odisha, reached 43.6 degrees Celsius and 27 cities in the state recorded temperatures exceeding 41 degrees Celsius.

“Bhubaneswar state recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Bhubaneswar, Budh and Angul exceeded 43 degrees Celsius,” he further said.

While reminding the public to pay attention to the heat wave situation, Mohanty said, “On April 19, severe heat wave weather will prevail, and coastal areas will experience hot and humid weather, and there may even be warm nights. The heat wave will occur from April 20 to 21. continued”.

“There will be some relief after April 21 as rain, lightning, thunder and gusty winds are expected,” she told ANI.

Asked about the maximum temperature levels, Mohanty said: “The maximum temperature is expected to exceed 45 degrees Celsius in places like Mayurbhanj, Angul, Nayagarh, Balangir and Kalahandi.”

A yellow alert has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh and Kandhamal.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Odisha government announced that all schools in the state would be closed from April 18 to 20 due to the heat wave predicted by the IMD.

The “yellow alert” advises people to stay up to date. During the yellow alert, heat wave conditions will last for two days in isolated areas.

According to the weather service, the alert indicates that the general public can tolerate the heat, but there may be health concerns for vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
