Alfred Molina sheds tears over heartbreaking story about late father

Alfred Molina opens up about an emotional story about his father and how he didn’t support his career choices.

“When I was very young, my father got me a job as a waiter at the restaurant where he worked,” Molina explained in an interview. Vanity Fair.

“If I do say so myself, I was a good enough waiter to the point where the management gave me the opportunity to do a two-week management training course,” he said.

“I turned it down because I had got an acting job. My father says, ‘This acting job, how much are they paying you?’ I said, ‘I’m on a union wage, so £15 a week.’

Molina’s father, Esteban, did not understand why his son would choose a job that was paying him half his current salary.

“Wait. You’re making £30 or £35 here. So you’re going to make £15?” Molina recalled his father saying, “A look reserved for crazy people and losers.”

This conversation took place before the actor was a Tony and BAFTA-nominated actor.

“He stared at me as if he didn’t recognize me. All I could say to him was, ‘This is what I like, Dad.’ He could never understand it. I disappointed my father. Yes. If my father had lived a little longer, hopefully he would have realized that I had not wasted my time.’

However, the actor, fighting back tears, said that for years his father kept a suitcase full of “clippings and photographs and excerpts from magazines and letters from people who wrote to him saying they had seen me.”

He added, “He kept all this stuff, but he never talked about it.”

Molina has acted in notable films like Chocolate, The Da Vinci Code And Frieda, Molina also played the role of the villain Doctor Octopus in spider man 2 And Spider-Man: No Way Home.
