The Congress Party nominated Sonal Patel as party secretary.

New Delhi:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today filed his nomination for Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming general elections. The move marks Mr Shah’s re-election bid in a constituency with a rich political legacy, previously represented by veterans such as former deputy prime minister and BJP president LK Advani.

Gandhinagar holds historical significance in the context of Indian politics. In the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee won from Gandhinagar and Lucknow. Vajpayee, however, chose to retain his Lucknow seat, paving the way for future leaders to make their mark in Gandhinagar.

The Congress party has nominated its party secretary Sonal Patel as its candidate from the Gandhinagar seat.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mr Shah achieved a landslide victory, maintaining the BJP’s stronghold in Gandhinagar with 69.67 per cent of the vote. The city’s election turnout has been consistently high.

The 2024 Lok Sabha election will be held in seven phases, starting on April 19 and ending on June 1. Gandhinagar will go to the third phase of voting on May 7. Each phase will cover different constituencies in states and union territories. The election results will be announced on June 4.
