There are just a few weeks left before the start of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, but Mumbai Indians’ decision to replace captain Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya remains Topics of greatest concern. MI fans are still disappointed with Rohit’s demotion. In fact, former Mumbai India star Ambati Rayudu also feels that the decision to change the captaincy was taken in haste. Rayudu, who has also played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, hopes Rohit will follow his footsteps and join the MS Dhoni-led team.

Rayudu had no hesitation in suggesting that Rohit should continue to captain the Mumbai side for another season, especially since he is also currently leading the Indian team.

“Mumbai Indians have decided to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain. The team should continue with Rohit this season as he is still a part of the Indian team Captain. Hardik could have played a spell with MI under Rohit this season and then take up the leadership role from next year,” Rayudu said in a statement with news24.

The former MI and CSK batsman feels Hardik may find it difficult to lead the Mumbai team as the setup is different compared to the Gujarat Titans.

“Coming to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans as captain might be difficult for Hardik because the set-up is different,” he said.

As for Rohit’s future, Rayudu is keen to see the opening batsman join the Chennai Super Kings. Rayudu would like to see Rohit leading the yellow brigade if circumstances warrant and he himself shows interest.

“I would like to see Rohit in the Chennai Super Kings. If MS Dhoni does not continue (after this season), Rohit may lead the team,” he asserted.

Mumbai Indians will kick off the new season with their first match against Hardik’s previous team, Gujarat Titans, on March 24.
