King Charles, who ascended the throne after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, may consider handing over the throne to Prince William before his death due to health concerns, a new report says.

The 75-year-old monarch was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in January after undergoing surgery for benign prostatic hypertrophy and is said to be dealing with a serious health crisis.

An insider told In Touch Weekly: “It’s a tragedy that Charles won’t be able to follow in his mother’s footsteps and leave a lasting legacy.”

“His aides could tell that Charles still worried about his legacy.”

The outlet quoted another insider as saying the king “tends to worry himself” about whether William, the next heir to the throne, is ready to succeed him as king.

A source told In Touch that the king and queen are “concerned about William, second in line to the throne, as he is currently facing a public relations disaster.”

On August 31, 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, died in a car accident in Paris.

In the 2017 ITV documentary Our Mother Diana, William spoke candidly about the tragedy and revealed how it shaped who he is today. “It either makes you or breaks you. I’m not going to let it break me, I want it to make me. I want her to be proud of the person I’ve become,” he said.

“I don’t want her to worry, or her legacy, you know, with William and/or Harry being completely destroyed.”

It is worth noting that William is currently caring for his wife Kate Middleton and three children who are suffering from cancer.
