Prince Harry and Meghan release statement on Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released a brief statement of support after the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis.

“We wish Kate and her family good health and recovery and hope they can do so privately and peacefully,” the statement read.

Just hours earlier, the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis in a statement at 6pm on Friday.

“In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London for what was believed to be a non-cancerous condition. The surgery was successful. However, post-surgery tests revealed that cancer was already present,” Kate’s statement said.

“As a result, my medical team recommended that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of treatment.”

The couple have not been seen together in public since Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022

King Charles and Queen Camilla said they were “extremely proud” of the Princess of Wales “for speaking so bravely,” according to Buckingham Palace.

The statement added that the Queen herself was diagnosed with cancer in February but still maintains “the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law”.

When the king revealed his cancer diagnosis in February, Prince Harry flew from Los Angeles to speak with his father.

But it is unclear whether Harry and Ms Markle have spoken to Kate or William since the news was announced.

The couple, previously known as the “Beatles”, have not been seen together in public since Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022.

After Prince Harry returned to the UK to visit his father in February, a royal source said there were “no plans” for the brothers to get together.

Leaders and politicians from around the world have sent messages of support to the Princess of Wales.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said the princess had received national support as she underwent chemotherapy.

Canadian leader Justin Trudeau said his thoughts were with the Princess of Wales following the news.

Mr Trudeau wrote on

“On behalf of Canadians, I would like to express my support as she undergoes treatment. We all wish her a speedy recovery.”
