After the collision, two buses caught fire and at least 13 buses derailed. The accident injured 19 passengers. The injured have been sent to a nearby hospital. Preliminary reports indicate that train crews experienced strong shaking on the track, causing the express train to veer onto the Circle Line and collide with a parked freight train. Doctors, ambulances, medical rescue teams and senior officials have been dispatched to the scene. All passengers have been rescued. Southern Railway said in a statement that all passengers will be taken to central Chennai on EMUs and a new train is ready in Chennai to take them to Darbhanga or other destinations.
