Police injured in 'accidental firing' while clearing guns at Ram temple complex in Ayodhya

Provincial Armed Police (PAC) commandos are stationed at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex.

Ayodhya:

A Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) commando was injured in an “accidental discharge” while clearing weapons at his post at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex on Tuesday night, police said.

Platoon leader Ram Prasad (50) was rushed to Ayodhya Medical College and was referred to KGMU, Lucknow as his condition was said to be serious, they said.

The commando has been posted at Ram Janmabhoomi Complex in Ayodhya on security duty for about 6 months.

Inspector General of Police Pravin Kumar told Press Trust of India (PTI) that the commando was injured while clearing weapons at his post.

Dr Vinod Kumar Arya, head of emergency at Ayodhya Medical College, said the bullet hit the left side of Ram Prasad’s chest.

Doctors said that as the commando’s condition was serious, he had to be shifted to KGMU in Lucknow.

Prasad is a resident of Achapur village in Amethi district.
