UP gangster Mukhtar Ansari’s body taken to his residence for last rites

Ghazipur, U.P.:

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died of cardiac arrest and his body was taken to his residence in Ghazipur for last rites amid heavy police deployment by the district administration .

Mukhtar Ansari’s brother Sibqatullah Ansari said the last rites would be performed on Saturday.

Sibgatullah Ansari told ANI on Friday: “We received the body after some delay so the last rites cannot be performed tonight. The rites will be performed tomorrow morning. I request everyone Pray for him.”

Earlier in the day, Mukhtar Ansari’s body was transported from Banda to Ghazipur after the autopsy was completed at Banda Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, a three-member team will conduct a definitive investigation into Ansari’s death.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Banda issued the order regarding the judicial inquiry. Officials said a team of two doctors will conduct an autopsy and take video.

Mukhtar Ansari’s son Umar Ansari told ANI that he has written a letter asking doctors at Delhi’s AIIMS to conduct an autopsy.

“(The post-mortem) is their procedure. I wrote a letter saying this should be done by doctors at AIIMS, Delhi. We don’t trust the medical system, the government and the administration here… you know why I am saying this… Panchnama has been completed. The magistrate has to take a decision. Let us see what decision he will take. The post-mortem has not started yet…” he said.

“We hope the courts will help investigate the suspicions we have expressed. We will consult with our legal team. We believe this was not a natural death but a well-planned murder,” he added.

According to an official release from the hospital, Ansari was admitted to the hospital around 8:25 pm on Thursday. A team of nine doctors cared for him before his death, the release added.

Mukhtar Ansari’s brother, Sibqatullah Ansari, claimed on Friday that the government did not inform him and that he learned of his death through the media.

Earlier, Omar Ansari claimed that his father had “poisoned the food” and said “they will hand it over to the judiciary”.

In April 2023, Mukhtar Ansari was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison by the MP-MLA court for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. He was sentenced to life in prison on March 13, 2024, in a case related to the use of forged documents to obtain a weapons license in 1990.
