Bruce Springsteen becomes first international songwriter to become Ivers Academy Fellow

Bruce Springsteen has been appointed a Fellow of the British Ivers Academy, the first international songwriter to receive this honor.

this American idolOn Tuesday, the 74-year-old was named the next recipient of the academy’s highest honour, recognizing the impact of his career on the UK’s cultural landscape.

The born-to-run musician has sold more than 140 million records worldwide and won 20 Grammy Awardsone Oscar and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“In addition to recognizing my songwriting, this award is a tribute to the fans and friends who have supported me and my work over the past 50 years,” Springsteen said in a statement.

“The entire country made me feel welcome every step of the way, and for that, I will always be deeply grateful.”

The Boss has released 21 studio albums – from their 1973 debut, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ, to their latest, 2022’s Only the Strong Survive.

Springsteen announced in September that he was suspending his tour, citing doctors’ advice as he recovered from peptic ulcer disease.

But last week he returned to the American stage with the E Street Band, performing a nearly three-hour set.

The musician will receive his latest award at the ceremony ivory ceremony Held in London on May 23, the winners of the 2024 Ivor Novello Prize will also be announced.

Springsteen becomes the 27th Fellow of the Academy, the UK’s professional society for music creators, joining previously inducted songwriting icons including Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Sir Elton John and Sting .

While he will be the only songwriter from outside the UK, the Fellowship also includes American composer John Adams and French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez.

The Ivor Awards are named after Ivor Novello, a Welsh composer, actor and entertainer in the early 20th century, and were first awarded in 1956.
