Shashank Singh – This name will be talked about a lot in the coming days of IPL 2024. Shashank Singh is the man for the Shikhar Dhawan-led team as Punjab Kings chase a 200-run total against Gujarat Titans on Thursday hero. The batting all-rounder scored 61 runs off just 29 balls to lead his team to victory in 19.5 overs. He hit four sixes and six fours to help PBKS register their second win in four games in IPL 2024.
However, Shashank Singh created some controversy when he joined the ranks of PBKS last year. Towards the end of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, Shashank Singh was acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 20 lakh. But soon after he was picked up in the accelerated auction, there seemed to be some confusion over the posturing from Kings XI Punjab co-owners Neth Wadia and Preity Zeta. When Shashank’s name was mentioned, Preeti Zeta raised her paddle after discussing the player with her team. With no other franchises bidding on him, the player was quickly sold and the hammer came down.
As there seemed to be some confusion, auctioneer Mallik Sagar said: “Is it a wrong name? You don’t want this player anymore?” Malika asked. “We are talking about Shashank Singh. But the hammer has fallen. Players No. 236 and 237 have gone to you. I think the hammer has fallen for No. 237 (Shashank) as well,” she said.
The incident sparked a social media storm claiming Kings XI Punjab did not want a player they had just purchased. However, Kings XI Punjab issued a clarification on Wednesday: “Kings XI Punjab would like to clarify that Shashank Singh has been on our target list. The reason for the confusion is that there are two players with the same name on the list. We are happy to have him on board and watch to his contribution to our success.
After Shashank’s latest heroics, auction chaos memes took the internet by storm.
