Michael Bracewell will captain New Zealand for the first time on this month’s Twenty20 tour of Pakistan, with many of their top players absent as they are playing in the Indian Premier League. Pakistan will host New Zealand in a five-match Twenty20 international on April 18 in Rawalpindi as both teams warm up for the T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies in June. All-rounder Bracewell was named captain on Wednesday after missing more than a year due to a ruptured Achilles tendon and a fractured finger, while regular skipper Kane Williamson is playing for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL.

The 33-year-old said he had a “golden three days” last month after learning he would captain New Zealand, in which he also claimed eight wickets for his Wellington club and won the Hit a hole-in-one while playing golf.

“It was three days I’ll never forget,” Bracewell said.

“I’m really excited and it’s a huge honor to be selected for the New Zealand team again and to be chosen as captain. I didn’t expect this.”

IPL signed players Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Rocky Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Lachin Ravindra, Mickey · Santner and Williamson are both absent.

New Zealand Test captain Tim Southee is resting after a busy summer of cricket, while Will Young, Tom Latham and Colin Colin Munro is also absent.

Batsman Tim Robinson and fast bowler Will O’Rourke were named in the T20 squad for the first time.

“We have selected a team with great strength and exciting bowling options,” New Zealand selector Sam Wells said.

In January, New Zealand defeated Pakistan 4-1 in the five-match Twenty20 series at home.

Team New Zealand:

Michael Bracewell (captain), Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Jacob Duffy, Dean Foxcroft, Ben Lister, Cole McConchie, Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, Will O’Rourke, Tim Robinson, Ben Sears, Tim Seifert, Ish Soddy
