Man detained by Iranian embassy in Paris over explosives scare

“Witnesses saw a man entering carrying a grenade or explosive belt,” the source said.

French authorities detained a man on Friday after receiving an alert from the Iranian consulate in Paris that someone had entered with explosives, police authorities in the capital said.

“The man has left the consulate and is being interrogated by the police,” the statement said.

A security source earlier told AFP the mission called law enforcement after a witness saw “a man entering with a grenade or explosive belt”.

An AFP reporter said the entire neighborhood around the consulate in the capital’s 16th district had been cordoned off and there was a heavy police presence.

Paris transport company RATP said on X (formerly Twitter) that traffic on two metro lines passing through stations near the building was suspended.
