Maryam Nawaz's convoy allegedly kills motorcyclist: report

Islamabad:

Pakistan’s Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s convoy allegedly killed a motorcyclist while traveling from Narowal to Kartarpur for the three-day Baisakhi celebrations, Dawn reported .

Her convoy was heading towards Kartarpur from Narowal when the elite force vehicle hit a motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction at Chandowal station on Shakargarh Road on Thursday.

According to Dawn newspaper, the motorcyclist, named Abubakar, 23, a resident of Jassar town, died on the spot.

Despite the accident, the CM’s convoy did not stop to take the injured to the hospital.

Ali Rizwan, a cousin of the deceased, said Abubakar was traveling from his home to the gas station where he was employed.

He further stated that no officials stopped their vehicle to help the injured Abubakar, nor did they pick him up or even call the rescue number 1122.

Instead, he lamented that police rushed to the scene after the incident and used water to wash the blood on the road and remove the evidence, Dawn reported.

Arifa Bibi, the mother of Abubakar, said her son was hit and killed by a police car, stressing that her son was supporting the family in difficult times due to inflation, adding that her husband Fakhar Ayaz Ayaz) is a worker.

She sought justice from CM Maryam Nawaz and said an FIR should be registered against the person responsible for the accident and he should be arrested.

Abubakar’s father, Fakhar Ayaz, fainted in shock after hearing the news of his son’s death.

He was later shifted to Narowal District Headquarters Hospital where he received treatment for several hours.

Regional Emergency Officer Muhammad Naeem Akhtar said that Rescue 1122 motorcycles and ambulances rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident, but the victim died on the spot.

He said Rescue 1122 has shifted the body to Narowal District Headquarters Hospital.

District police officer Mohammad Naveed Malik said Abubakar and Hamza were riding a motorcycle from Jassar town to Narowal when a high-speed motorcycle came from behind and hit them. As a result of the motorcycle collision, Abubakar fell on his right side and Hamza fell on his left side.

The DPO said Abu Bakar fell on the right side of the road, was hit by the vehicle and died in the accident, Dawn reported.

However, eyewitnesses Mohammad Aslam and Attaullah denied the police account, saying that only one person (Abubakar) was riding a bicycle at the time and the police car was overtaking him.

Abubakar’s cousin Rizwan also denied the police account, saying only Abubakar was riding the motorcycle.

He further claimed police lied to protect the police driver responsible for the accident, Dawn reported.

Rana Lal Badshah, former president of Narowal District Bar Association and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said there should be a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Additionally, an FIR was registered against the unidentified driver of the police car by the Sadar police station based on the complaint of Ali Rizwan.
