Karnataka Youth Congress president detained for trying to protest near PM's convoy route

“We have taken two persons into preventive detention,” police said

Bangalore:

Police said two people, including Karnataka Youth Congress president Mohammad Haris Nalappad, were taken into preventive detention on Saturday while trying to protest near Mehri Circle, a short distance from Prime Minister Narender The route that La Modi’s motorcade will travel is about 300 meters.

They said this was not a security breach of any kind.

They tried to protest by holding an empty ‘Chombu’ (a small round water container) in an alley near the route where Modi’s motorcade was scheduled to travel after holding a campaign rally at the palace grounds.

“We have taken preventive detention of two people. So, they tried to protest on a lane just before the prime minister’s convoy was approaching. We stopped them immediately,” a senior police officer said.

The Congress in Karnataka has been running a ‘Chombu’ campaign claiming to reduce devolution of funds, neglecting drought-affected areas and highlighting “glaring gaps” in the BJP-led National Development Alliance government.

Chombu means water jar in Kannada. The Congress has launched a sarcastic campaign claiming that the Modi government’s gift to Karnataka is ‘Chombu’. The word “Chombu” symbolizes deceit and emptiness.
