Lok Sabha polls 2024: Kerala receives over 2 lakh complaints of election violations

Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kaul said here on Saturday that just six days before the Lok Sabha polls, Kerala received a total of 2,09,661 complaints on violation of the model code of conduct, including 2, Action taken on 06,152 cases.

The complaints were received through the cVIGIL mobile application set up by the Election Commission.

Kaul said in a statement that the complaints were received from March 16 to April 20 and that 426 complaints are currently being processed.

Most of the complaints received through cVIGIL relate to unauthorized posters, banners, signage, wall text, posters without mandatory messages, destruction of property, unauthorized monetary transactions, unauthorized use of vehicles, distribution of liquor, giveaways Gifts, displays of weapons and hate speeches.

Of the total complaints received, 3,083 were dismissed as unfounded, the statement said.

The Chief Electoral Officer said the public can send complaints about irregularities through the cVIGIL (Citizen Vigil) app. He said immediate action would be taken on complaints sent through the app.

The identity of the complainant will be kept confidential, the Chief Electoral Officer added.
