Lok Sabha polls 2024: Police files case against HD Kumaraswamy for 'false statement'

Bangalore (Karnataka):

An FIR was lodged on Saturday against Janata Dal (Secular) leader and NDA candidate from Mandya HD Kumaraswamy for making “false statements” related to the elections.

The FIR has been filed under Section 123(4) of the RP Act and Section 171(G) of the IPC.

“An FIR was registered by FST, Gubbi, Tumkuru against HD Kumaraswamy, JDS, for false statements related to the election. FIR No. 149/2024 in Gubbi PS u/s 123(4) of the RP Act Registration under Section 171(G) of the IPC,” the official account of the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka shared in a post on X.

Earlier in the day, an FIR was also filed against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Polling for 28 seats in the 18th Lok Sabha in Karnataka will be held in the second and third phases on April 26 and May 7 respectively.

Counting will take place on June 4.
