Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fielding coach Jonty Rhodes poked fun at all-rounder Deepak Hooda’s bad catch during Friday’s IPL 2024 match. After the game, Rhodes presented Huda with the Magic Microphone Award, which is given to the team’s best outfielder after every LSG game. However, Rhodes’ decision was even more ironic as Hooda’s failed catch in the 17th over also gave CSK six runs. Ravindra Jadeja collected a long-on delivery from Mohsin Khan and Hooda fended it off after a misjudgment for a six.
In a video uploaded by LSG, Rhodes hilariously claimed that Hooda deliberately dropped the catch to prevent MS Dhoni from facing any more deliveries.
For the untrained eye, Dhoni smashed an unbeaten 28 off 9 balls, hitting two sixes and three boundaries. He started batting in the 18th over after Moeen Ali was dismissed.
“I think birthday boy Deepak Hooda made a smart decision by letting the ball go for six, so that means Dhoni didn’t go for five more,” Rhodes said in the video.

The entire locker room erupted in laughter, and Huda happily accepted the joke.
Back into the match, LSG’s clinical bowling limited Chennai’s performance in the middle overs, with Shivam Dube (three) unable to pop out.
Dhoni’s final burst led CSK to chase the score to 176/6, and LSG took the total score with a one-goal lead.
Openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul started the chase with a brilliant 134-run partnership.
De Kock scored 54 runs off 43 balls while Rahul scored an incredible 82 runs off 53 balls.
Despite the defeat, five-time champions CSK currently sit third in the table with eight points from six games. LSG, on the other hand, is ranked fifth with three wins.
