Travis Head’s destructive hundred per cent blended perfectly with captain Pat Cummins’ determination as Sunrisers Hyderabad played a high-scoring game on Monday defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 25 points. Head’s maiden T20 hundred (102, 41b, 9×4, 8×6) and Heinrich Klaasen’s plundering 67 (31b, 2×4, 7×6) propelled Sunrisers to a record three-man score of 287, also surpassing theirs against Mumbai in Hyderabad this year The Indians were 277/3 on March 27. The visitors’ bowlers, led by Cummins (3/43), displayed a level of skill that their opponents lacked in an empty pitch, restricting RCB to 262 runs in 7 overs. This IPL match also set the highest cumulative score in a single T20 match – 549 points.

Skipper Faf du Plessis (62, 28b, 7×4, 4×6) and the super-improvised Dinesh Karthik (83, 35b, 5×4, 7×6) performed well but they were mere footnotes on the night.

However, RCB started the chase for 288 with gusto, with Du Plessis and Virat Kohli (42, 20b, 6×4, 2×6) scoring 50 in just 3.5 overs points, which was a better time than SRH’s 50 in 4.3 overs.

The Faf-Kohli combination reached 79 in the Power Play overs and 80 in 6.2 overs, but the emergence of leg-spinner Mayank Markande changed the complexion of the game.

Kohli tried to slog through Marchand, only to see the ball slip under his bat and rattle the stumps. From then on, Royal Challengers lost 4 wickets in 41 overs as the score slipped to 121 for four while the requirement rate also rose sharply.

The fourth wicket to fall at this stage was that of Du Plessis. The South African batsman hit Cummins for four and a six in succession, but sent a pinpoint slow pinball to Klassen behind the stumps.

In the same over, the Australian pacer also trapped Saurav Chauhan in front of the wicket but failed to score.

Karthik and Mahipal Lomror (19) jointly punished Markande for 25 runs in the final over, scoring 59 runs from 29 balls for the sixth wicket, with the former also getting 59 runs for the seventh wicket along with Anuj Rawat 63 runs as RCB move forward at a fast pace.

But in the end, it just brought some artificial excitement to the audience.

Earlier, Hyde’s devastating hundred was the driving force behind Hyderabad’s impressive total.

The South Australian scored 108 runs in 49 balls with his opening partner Abhishek Sharma (34, 22b) and joined Klassen on 26 for the second wicket 57 runs were scored with the ball, and the home team’s bowlers wilted under the sustained firing.

Hyde’s bat doesn’t have the traditional grace of a southpaw, but he makes up for it with efficiency.

His game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium was a clear example of the simple principle he followed when batting – anything in the arc of his bat disappeared far away.

The 30-year-old showed chilling efficiency against RCB pacer Reece Topley and rookie Lockie Ferguson, who replaced the out-of-form G Glenn Maxwell.

But Ferguson’s first game was very forgettable, as he gave up 18 points. The New Zealander tipped a ball to Head’s pads and it bounced past square leg for a six.

Ferguson tried to course-correct on the next ball but came up a little short.

But Head was up for the challenge, lifting the ball over mid-on for a huge maximum.

Abhishek also hit a few good shots during this period, but Topley’s upward flick was interrupted by Ferguson at square leg.

But that brought Head and Klaasen together and RCB were further suppressed by SRH’s second wicket combination.

Hyder soon hit a hundred with a brutal boundary from pacer Vysakh Vijayakumar.

However, he died soon after as Du Plessis untimely intercepted Ferguson’s ball in midfield.

But the dismissal did not slow down Hyderabad and Klassen acted as a battering ram, taking his tally to 50 in just 23 balls.

As usual, the South African was strict on spin and in his only match, he bowled Mahipal Lomror for 18 runs off part-time left-arm spin.

Although Klassen was dismissed by Ferguson, SRH soon surpassed their own record of 277 runs.

The landmark moment came when Aiden Markram (32, 17 birds) hit Wissak for a long single.

Markram also added 56 runs to the unbroken fourth-wicket alliance with Abdul Samad (37, 10b, 4×4, 3×6) while Hyderabad also hit 22 sixes ball, which is the highest in an IPL innings.
