Gukesh D youngest to win the Chess Candidates Championship
India’s 17-year-old chess master D Gukesh wrote history by winning the Chess Candidates Championship here and becoming the youngest challenger to the world title. Later this year, he will compete for the title against defending world champion Ding Liren of China. Gukesh scored nine of his 14 points in the match after a draw with American Hikaru Nakamura in the final round. He became the second Indian to win candidature after the great Viswanathan Anand. Five-time world champion Anand won the title in 2014.
“Congratulations @DGukesh on becoming the youngest challenger. The @WacaChess family is very proud of you for everything you have done. I am personally very proud of how you performed and handled difficult situations. Enjoy the moment,” Anand on ‘X’ Posted congratulations to this young man who is also from Chennai.

The Indians were hoping that the final match between Russian Ian Nepomniacki and American top seed Fabiano Caruana would end in a draw, and that’s exactly how it happened.
If either player wins, the match will require a tie-break, as Gukesh and the winner will be tied for the lead.
Gukesh has been making waves for a while now, becoming the third youngest person in chess history to achieve the title of Grandmaster at the age of 12.
Last year, he won a silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The date and venue for the world championships have not yet been finalized.
