Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) survived the chase of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to win by one run in the IPL 2024 at Eden Gardens. However, KKR’s victory was overshadowed by Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal. Kohli, who was on 18 off 7 balls, fumbled on a slower full toss and was caught and bowled by Harshit Rana. However, when the umpire checked whether it was a no-ball, the former RCB skipper was convinced that the high full toss was above his waist. Third umpire Michael Gough called this after a technical indication was that Kohli was ahead of the pop-up crease and the ball had sunk due to lack of pace in the delivery.
The decision sparked outrage from Kohli, who was furious after speaking to officials at the scene.
Former RCB batsman AB de Villiers and former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared their thoughts on Kohli’s controversial dismissal.
De Villiers and Patan offer very different views on this. The former South Africa captain said the lack of clarity and gray areas in the rules led to Kohli’s outburst.
“The gray areas in the game provide room for anger and confusion. It’s not a difficult problem to solve. Know the batsmen’s stance, draw boundaries and use ball tracking. There will be no confusion whatsoever,” de Villiers wrote on X.

Pathan, on the other hand, suggested that Harshit bowled a legal delivery.
“This is a legit dance,” Pathan wrote in another post on X.
This is a legal ball.

Senior commentator Harsha Bhogle also shared his thoughts on the dismissal.
“Thank God for technology. All accusations of bias or favoritism are eliminated. And players are measured before the game starts, which many of us have been waiting for. So, it has nothing to do with the referees,” Bogle said in a post “There’s no alternative to using technology calmly,” advises Zhong. “
Thank God for technology. Dismiss all accusations of bias or favoritism. Fortunately, players were measured before the game, which is something many of us have been waiting for. So, it’s not a question of refereeing at all, but a question of calm use of technique.

Coming back to the match, RCB conceded 222/6 after electing to bowl first, with KKR opener Phil Salt hitting 48 off 14 balls and skipper Shreyas Iyer knocking on 50 balls.
In reply, Will Jacks (55) and Rajat Patidar (52) attempted to start a chase in the third wicket stand of 102 runs. However, the two were dismissed soon after, triggering RCB’s collapse.
In Mitchell Starc’s last over, tailback Karn Sharma, who needed 21 runs to win, smashed KKR’s 247.5 thousand with 3 sixes Ten thousand rupees and then got caught and bowled.
Salter then bowled Locke Ferguson off the last ball to seal the win and KKR consolidated their second spot in the table.
Meanwhile, the defeat means RCB suffered their seventh defeat in eight games and remain at the bottom of the table.
