“Let’s not get into this…”: R Ashwin’s surprising comment on Sunil Narine forces people to ‘read between the lines’ cricket news

The current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen the batsmen dominating their counterparts. The 250-run mark has already been crossed eight times this season. Amidst the run-fest, only two bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah and Sunil Narine – managed to stem the flow of runs and also grab crucial wickets for their team. Bumrah and Narine are the only bowlers with an economy rate below 7, while also taking more than 10 wickets each. Bumrah leads the Purple Cap chart with 17 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 6.25.

On the other hand, Narine has an economy of 6.72 this season and also has 13 wickets in his account. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rajasthan Royals and India spinner Ravindra Ashwin heaped praise on Bumrah and Narine for their skills this season.

However, Ashwin took a sharp dig at Narine’s bowling action, which has been questioned before, but he refused to discuss the topic in depth.

“Bumrah has a really nice unique point – because of his release point he has got a distinct advantage compared to other fast bowlers. I will not talk about Sunil Narine. It is wrong as per my policy. Narine Was also getting hit from 2-3 seasons ago. He has been excellent this season, but let’s not go into that topic,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

In contrast, Ashwin has been a bit expensive so far this season, scoring at a rate of nine runs per over. However, the biggest concern regarding his form has been the lack of wickets.

He has taken only two wickets in nine matches. Despite his struggles, Ashwin recently claimed that taking wickets in T20 is irrelevant.

Reacting to his comment, former India batsman Virender Sehwag, however, criticized Ashwin and said that the veteran could go unsold in next season’s auction.

“It’s like when KL Rahul said strike rate doesn’t matter. Same thing. He said it for batting, Ashwin said it for bowling it doesn’t matter if you take wickets. If His stats are not good, so he might not even be picked in the auction next year. When you pick a bowler, do you expect him to give 25-30 runs or do you expect him to give 25-30 runs? Will he give you wickets and become man of the match two or three times? Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
