In a bold decision, Revanth Reddy scrapped the previous government’s proposed airport metro rail routes from Rayadurga, considering them impractical. The new route map prepared by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) under his guidance will expand the metro rail network to new areas, while giving priority to the goal of providing cost-effective transportation to a larger section of the population, reports Deccan Chronicle. Sources say that the previous government’s plan from Raidurg to the airport mainly catered to real estate interests. In contrast, the new routes under the Congress government are aimed at fulfilling its commitment to provide metro rail services to benefit a wider demographic, especially the poor and middle classes.
The current Hyderabad Metro Rail extends for 69 km in three corridors, connecting Miyapur to LB Nagar, JBS to MGBS and Nagole to Rayadurgam. With Phase 2, the network will extend from Secunderabad Jubilee Bus Station to MGBS and further to Chandrayangutta intersection. Additionally, four new corridors have been established to redefine the city’s transportation landscape.
