According to a local media report, Neom’s green hydrogen plant is “well underway” with major construction as they successfully secured $8.4 billion in funding last year.

In November 2023, the developer of the world’s largest carbon-free green hydrogen plant, at the port of Neom in northwestern Saudi Arabia, received its first wind turbine delivery.

The CEO said Neom is the only fully funded project, while many green hydrogen projects around the world are still in the early planning stages.

By 2026, Al Ghamdi hopes to scale up green hydrogen production at the lowest cost.

For global export, the plant is projected to produce 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen per day and 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. A target has been set to offset up to 5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.

“The company will have a special jetty to ship hydrogen in the form of ammonia directly from its site,” the CEO said.
