Despite facing limited success with the previous model in India, the French automaker is all set for a revival with the upcoming launch of the Citroen Basalt – a mid-size coupe SUV slated for release in the latter part of the year. Positioned as the third offering in Citroen’s C-Cubed programme, which previously introduced the C3 and C3 Aircross, the Basalt aims to woo Indian customers with its integration of style, performance and advanced features.

Following the unveiling of the concept version earlier this year, recent spy shots have provided a glimpse of the production-ready Citroen Basalt, highlighting its design and features. Shared on Instagram by @1DGASM, the video shows Basalt in its undisguised form, closely resembling the striking Basalt Vision concept.

The Citroen Basalt presents itself as a refined iteration of the Citroen C3 Aircross, characterized by its distinctive coupe-style sloping roofline. The spy video highlights the SUV’s elegant proportions and strong character, with design elements from the Basalt Vision Concept integrated into the production model.

While the Spy Basalt appears to be a mid-spec variant, lacking features like alloy wheels and projector LED headlights that are seen on the concept model, it is expected that the higher-spec trims will boast a wider suite of premium features. Positioned above the C3 Aircross, the Basalt is expected to offer enhanced features including LED projector headlights, automatic climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, push-button start and ventilated seats.

Additionally, Citroen has committed to prioritizing safety with plans to make six airbags, ISOFIX points and seat belt reminders standard across all Basalt variants. This underlines the brand’s commitment to providing high-level safety standards in line with global standards.

In a recent interview, Thierry Koskas, Citroen’s global CEO, expressed optimism about the brand’s prospects in India, envisioning the country as its second-largest market after its own in the next five years. Koskus emphasized the importance of network expansion and product innovation to drive Citroen’s growth path in India, highlighting the brand’s focus on introducing new models to suit the evolving needs and preferences of Indian consumers.

With the impending launch of Basalt and Citroen’s strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing its market presence, the brand is poised to make significant strides in India’s automotive landscape, fueling its commitment to excellence and innovation.
