Kerala’s Kochi Water Metro will start services from High Court Terminal to South Chittoor with plans for more routes.

Within the next few weeks, Kerala’s Kochi Water Metro Three services will be started from High Court Terminal to South Chittoor.

The decision was taken at a meeting called by state Industries Minister P Rajeev on January 16 to review projects under the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).

The date of start of service will be announced later. According to reports, each service will be available in the morning, afternoon and evening.

Subsequently, more services will be added and the Eloor-Chernellur route will be covered. KMRL Managing Director (MD) Loknath Behera and other officials were also present in the meeting.

According to Times of India, Kerala Industries Minister Rajiv informed that he will meet the Chief Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to ensure timely delivery of 11 more electric-hybrid boats to Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML). He also suggested that KMRL consult the Water Transport Department to draft a law similar to the existing metro rail system to ensure smooth operation of the water metro.

Rajiv suggested that depending on the progress of construction of Phase II of Kochi Metro, KMRL should take steps to complete the construction of the new line between Jawaharlal Nehru International (JLN) Stadium in Kochi and Kakkanad by March 2026.

The Industries Minister further assured that he will consult the Transport Department officials about the possibility of operating electric buses, which KMRL intends to purchase for feeder services from metro stations to benefit the public.

Industries Minister Rajeev said steps will be taken at the government level to expedite the canal rejuvenation project and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) will be asked to expedite the development of the Edappally canal and four sewage treatment plants. The minister demanded that the renovation of Chilvannur Bund Road Bridge and Market Canal be completed on time.
