Sunil Narine hit 85 to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to a crushing 106-run win over Delhi Capitals with a total of 272-7 on Wednesday, setting a new record in IPL history. Two good grades. The huge score came just a week after Sunrisers Hyderabad posted their highest ever innings total of 277-3. Kolkata, the 2012 and 2014 IPL champions, beat Delhi by 166 runs in 17.2 overs to top the 10-team list and remain unbeaten in three matches this season. Delhi captain Rishabh Pant hit 55 off 25 balls, his second consecutive fifty, and Tristan Stubbs hit 54, But the rest of the shots failed.

With the upcoming general elections in India, the venue became Delhi’s home ground but Narine and Kolkata made it their home ground.

Narine hit 7 fours and 7 sixes in a 39-ball blitz to top T20 scores in his 501st match.

Narine, 35, smashed Delhi seamer Ishant Sharma’s 50 in 21 balls and scored 26 in an innings with teenage debutant Ankrish Ra Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 104 runs together, while the latter scored 54 runs.

There was no respite for the bowlers as Narine departed Mitchell Marsh in the 13th over and Andre Russell was punished again.

Russell struck 41 off 19 balls before Rinku Singh threatened to help KKR break Hyderabad’s record total with his 26 off 8 balls.

South Africa quick Anrich Nortje sent Rinku back in the 19th over and Ishant struck with a toe-crushing yorker at the start of the 20th over Russell, Kolkata are just shy of the record.
