Comedians Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont have announced they are divorcing after nine years of marriage.
The couple said in a statement that they had “mutually and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.”
They added: “As our sole priority is dealing with this difficult transition for our daughter, we ask that our privacy be respected during this sensitive time to protect her well-being.
“We will have no further comment.”
Since 2020, the couple has starred together in the documentary Meet the Richardsons, in which they played “exaggerated versions of themselves.”
The pair have a daughter and have appeared together on Celebrity Gogglebox.
Beaumont was nominated for a 2023 BAFTA Television Award for Outstanding Female Performance in a Comedy Series for her performance in Meet the Richardsons.
However, in an interview last year, Beaumont said the on-screen portrayal of them bickering frequently on the show didn’t truly reflect their real-life relationship.
“It’s great but I’ve seen the comments on social media and people don’t seem to realize it’s not true,” she told the Mail on Sunday.
“I’m not henpecked – if I’d been so mean to him in real life, we wouldn’t have lasted this long.”
Regarding the show’s concept, she added: “You don’t want to see a smug couple in love, living in a nice house, with stable careers and adorable kids. Who wants to see that?”
Last year, Richardson told The Guardian: “Every couple has arguments but we all have an end result.
“We hone them and then put them on TV. And then it’s like: ‘Oh, maybe we’re not arguing – maybe we’re just doing the routine.’”
Beaumont is a stand-up comedian from Hull whose daily show often features anecdotes about her hometown and she has appeared on panel shows such as I’ve Got News for You.
She also appeared as a contestant on Season 16 of the comedy game show Taskmaster, which aired last year.
