Lucknow:

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday announced its unconditional support to the India Bloc candidate in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha polls, saying the elections are being held to “save democracy” and end “authoritarian governments”.

“AAP will extend its full support to the India Bloc candidate in Uttar Pradesh. What role we will play and how we will participate in the campaign will be decided after meetings with the Congress leadership involved in the campaign. We will extend our full support to Samajwadi Party candidate,” said AAP leader and Lok Sabha member Sanjay Singh.

Addressing a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav at the party headquarters in Uttar Pradesh, the AAP leader claimed that “there are no conditions or demands”.

“These are not normal elections, they are about saving democracy, ending dictatorship and saving the constitution. We are united in the Northern Alliance and wherever the Samajwadi Party candidate is, wherever the Indian Union candidate is, we will work for them .” he added.

Confident that the India Group would win the elections, Mr. Singh said every worker and elected representative of the party would work for the Socialist candidate.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the arrest of the elected chief minister, Mr. Trick.” In this case, it means a lack of confidence at the time of the election. “

Mr. Singh, who hails from Sultanpur, is on a visit to the state. His party will not contest the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections.

Akhilesh Yadav thanked AAP for its support and said the elections were not held under ordinary circumstances but to “uphold the constitution”.

Mr Yadav slammed the Center for sending AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and JMM leader Hemant Soren to jail ahead of the polls and said the BJP did so out of fear of losing the election.
