Chhindwara mayor makes U-turn to support Congress' Nakul Nath after joining BJP

On Friday, the day of polling in Madhya Pradesh’s high-profile Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat, city mayor Vikram Ahake, who recently joined the BJP, urged people to vote for Congress MP Nakul Na Special (Nakul Nath).

“Soon after joining the party, I felt suffocated. I felt that I had not done the right thing by a person who had developed a Chhindwara,” Mr Ahak said in a video message shared on social media.

Mr. Ahak said Nakul Nath always worked for the betterment of the constituency, whether it was the education sector, providing treatment to people or undertaking development work.

“In the future, I will have many opportunities in politics. I don’t know what will happen to me but if I don’t stand with my leaders Kamal Nath and Nakul Nath today… because they have done so much for me… I appeal to the voters To ensure the victory of Nakul Nath (Mr. Ahaq said in the video message:

The BJP has fielded Vivek Bunty Sahu against Nakul Nath and many senior party leaders visited the constituency to campaign for him.

Chhindwara is one of the six Lok Sabha seats where voting is underway in the first phase of the assembly elections.

The Chhindwara mayor joined the BJP on April 1 in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and state president Vishnu Dutt Sharma.

Of the 29 Lok Sabha seats, Chhindwara was the only constituency that the BJP lost in 2019.

Former Congress chief minister Kamal Nath had won the seat nine times.
