ChatGPT gets new ‘memory’ feature to remember details about you – here’s how it works

By | Published | No Comments

As a ChatGPT user, you realize that every conversation is new because the chatbot cannot retain the details you want it to follow or the style you want it to remember, ultimately wasting your time repeating information in new conversations.

However, that will all change soon, as OpenAI announced that it is testing ChatGPT’s memory capabilities. “We’re testing memory with ChatGPT. Remembering things you discuss in all your chats saves you from repeating information and makes future conversations more helpful,” the Microsoft-backed AI giant said.

It adds that users can “explicitly tell it to remember something” and even ask it what it remembers. Alternatively, if you don’t want it to remember anything, you can simply tell it to “forget via conversation or settings” or choose to turn it off entirely.

In short, you can ask ChatGPT to remember details about you or your family, such as whether you like a particular animal. For example, if you own a business and want it to remember, even things like note formatting options.

When will it be launched?

OpenAI said it will roll out the feature to a “small number” of ChatGPT Free and Plus users starting this week. It’s unclear when the company will open up a wider rollout, making it accessible to all users.
