Noida police on Friday said they have arrested 12 people from unauthorized call centers for allegedly duping foreigners on the pretext of selling them anti-virus software from reputed companies.

They also said they seized 14 desktop computers and other related items after raiding the call center.

A police spokesperson said that on Thursday, officers of the Phase I police station arrested 12 people from their office on the second floor of a building in Block C of Sector 2 on the basis of human intelligence and confidential information.

“All these people are calling foreign nationals and telling them that their companies have McAfee and Norton antivirus software that can solve the problems faced by laptops and computers for $100 (Rs 8,335) to $500 (Rs 41,676) One year,” the official said.

“The caller then sends a payment link to the foreigners via email to defraud them of their money. In addition, the call center is operated by the defendant without any license,” the police spokesman said. , Aviral Gautam, Rishabh Shukla, Ali Hasan, Anurag Tomar, Harendra Chaudhary, Mohammed Raju, Sandeep Kumar, Deepak Sharma, Saurabh Singh, Saket Priyadarshi and Shivam Kumar.

Some of those arrested are residents of Delhi while others live in Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida, police added.

The police said they have lodged an FIR under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (party to criminal conspiracy) and the Information Technology Act of the Indian Penal Code and further legal proceedings in the case are on.
