Discussions surrounding India’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad selection have intensified over the past few weeks, with reports suggesting that the news could be announced in the first week of May, with the wicketkeepers having multiple options for the selection. Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are some of the names being considered, with KL Rahul considered to be both a specialist batsman and a wicket-keeper. Legendary Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist gives his opinion on Rahul’s World Cup selection chances and what he can do to secure his spot.

“It may be difficult to stop playing (talking about T20 World Cup selections) in the remaining games. The narrative has to be away from who is going to play in the World Cup. How do they get to the World Cup? He has to work out like every other player in this tournament. He needs to think – How do I win this tournament for my team tonight? I know there’s this general shadow of the World Cup, but to win the IPL, to be the best player to win the IPL, if you’re in the pick. Narrative and you get on the plane,” he said on Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has given his verdict on the IPL’s ‘impact player’ rule.

“Look, I think, yesterday I read some very, very interesting answers to this question from Rohit Sharma. This impact player is taking the all-rounder out of the game a little bit,” Pang Ting said.

“You know you can have your pro batsmen hit eight. Almost. But look, I think that’s probably not ideal for coaches and players, but I think you know a lot of what this game is trying to do Just to entertain people,” Ponting explained his point of view.

“T20 matches are an entertainment package and it’s better to ask the audience what they think about the influential players because if everyone likes the fact that the team scores 220 to 250 runs in many games and the audience likes to watch, then it should Stay. But if the audience doesn’t like it that much, then there’s no reason why I can’t go back to it,” he added.
