Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a well-attended roadshow in the city’s T Nagar area on Tuesday ahead of the April 19 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu.

The Prime Minister was also joined by BJP state president K Annamalai and saffron party candidates for South, Central and North Chennai assembly segments.

Tamilisai Soundararajan has been fielded from south Chennai, while Vinoj P Selvam and RC Paul Kanagaraj are the party’s picks from central and north Chennai respectively.

Dressed in white shirt and traditional ‘Vishti‘(buti) and’Angavastram‘ (shawl), the Prime Minister stood atop a decorated car and waved to supporters lining both sides of the road. Modi also carried a small cutout of the Lotus, the BJP’s symbol.

During the 2-km-long roadshow – which takes about 45 minutes from Panagarh Park to Teynampet here – the Prime Minister can be seen smiling and waving to people, with many holding “Bharat Mata ki jai” and “Modi” slogans. , Modi” slogans to greet the leader. Enthusiastic supporters also presented flower petals to the prime minister.

Cultural events were held, including nadaswaram (a wind instrument) recital.

After spending the night here, PM Modi will address election rallies at Mettupalayam in nearby Vellore and Coimbatore districts on Wednesday, supporting NDA candidates including Annamalai, union minister L Murugan and ally PMK’s Soumya Anbumani.

Elections to 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, apart from Puducherry district, will be held on April 19 and the saffron party is hoping to do better in the elections even though it has no members in the outgoing House.

The BJP is leading a non-DMK, non-AIADMK bloc with voters including Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Tamil Maaniela Congress Mupanial led by former union minister GK Vasan.

According to Annamalai earlier, the Prime Minister may visit the state again after April 12 for campaigning.
