As the deadline to select India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad approaches, former batsman Virender Sehwag has announced his strongest XI for the important event to be held in the US. The ICC has set May 1 as the deadline for team submission for participating teams. According to reports, India captain Rohit Sharma will sit with the BCCI selectors to discuss the Indian team in the meeting to be held in New Delhi later this week.
The biggest talking point is the form of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is leading Mumbai Indians (MI) in the current season of the Indian Premier League. However, his poor form has raised doubts over his selection for the T20 World Cup squad.
When Sehwag was asked about India’s strongest XI for the T20 World Cup, he decided not to pick Hardik but also said that the all-rounder should be selected in the 15-member squad.
Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Sehwag backed young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal to open with skipper Rohit Sharma, followed by Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. 3 and 4 respectively.

For the wicketkeeper role, Sehwag chose Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant, who made a comeback to cricket in the current season of IPL. Pant was out of action since December 2022 after being injured in a near-fatal car accident.
Sehwag then suggested that either Rinku Singh or Shivam Dubey should be selected in the playing eleven.
He chose two spinners – Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav – and three fast bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Sandeep Sharma.
