Ravichandran Ashwin is indeed in top form as he becomes the 14th Indian player to play 100 Test matches. Ashwin led the England batsmen by taking 9 wickets in the fifth Test in Dharamshala, producing one of his best performances for the Whites. Post-match, India legend Sunil Gavaskar interviewed Ashwin and spoke about the way he continues to confuse batsmen even at this stage of his career.

Gavaskar also reminded Ashwin of comments made by England star Joe Root, who explained before the match why the best batsman in the world found it difficult to deal with Ashwin.

“That’s been the highlight of your career. You’ve been a student of the game. And how you get better every game with various pass attempts. Different passes. Different moves, different run-ups. There’s – I mean, it looks like fun, you know how the brain works, trying to outsmart the batsmen. I mean, I can only say that a lot of good spin bowlers will think a hundred times how to deal with that and Together, we heard from Joe Root before the Test match started,” Gavaskar said on Jio Cinema after the Test in Dharamshala.

“I would say Ashwin, (it) is to make sure you don’t hit the previous ball,” Root said on the Sky Cricket Podcast.

Ashwin remains one of the best brains in the game and he highlighted how the video analyst’s footage helps him best prepare for challenges.

“Sonny Bhai, I feel like I’ve been through it a lot, to a certain extent, the amount of footage you get from the video analysts and how often you play in top-flight Test nations. The batsmen have been Be prepared and they can line up for you which is pretty cool if you’re the same person. Of course there are stages where you can keep their style. You can find good length in certain spells but that’s not enough to dismiss some good batsmen. I’m not saying that just sticking to one approach won’t work, thankfully I’m one of those people who has tried it and learned what works for me. Still, with all The analysis and footage spread, you’d better be on top of it,” Ashwin responded.
