Indian tennis ace Sumit Nagar beat world No. 63 Flavio Coboli of Italy in straight sets in the Monte Carlo qualifiers on Saturday to register a victory at the Monte Carlo Masters . The 95th-ranked unseeded Indian defeated eighth-seeded Koboli 6-2 6-3. Nagal will now face the winner of the two Argentinians – Facundo Díaz Acosta and Diego Schwartzman – in the final qualifying match.

Acosta, ranked 55th, is the third seed, while Schwartzman, ranked 124th, is a wild-card entry into the tournament.

Seven qualifiers will be awarded entry into the main draw.

Nagal has been making headlines since entering the Australian Open main draw in January, beating Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the second round.

He followed that up with a win at the Chennai Open, before playing two Challenger tournaments, an ATP 500 tournament (Dubai Championship) and two ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (Indian Wells and Miami).

Since winning in Chennai, Nagar has reached the semi-finals only once during the Bangalore Challenge.

Meanwhile, world number one Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden (top seed) will also compete. PTI AYG ATK
