Old video of fight between two panelists during debate on Afghan TV channel is being shared with Incorrect Claiming that they were members of the Congress and BJP groups, the clashes occurred in Manipur on live television.

Clashes between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribe in Manipur broke out on May 3, 2023, resulting in the displacement of 60,000 people and the death toll of more than 200 people, according to government data. The elections for two Lok Sabha seats in Manipur will be held on April 19 and April 26, 2024.

In the 19-second video, two men can be seen arguing in a television studio and then getting into a physical fight, hitting and pushing each other. The video was posted on X by @BackOmyGawd with the title “Live TV Battle: BJP vs INC #Manipur”.

BOOM discovered that the viral video comes from Afghan television channel 1TV Kabul, where a fight broke out between two panelists on a debate show in June 2016. The viral video, which is not from Manipur, shows the BJP and Congress panelists fighting on live television.

We broke down the video into keyframes and performed a reverse image search using Google Lens, which revealed that the viral video was old and from Afghanistan.

We can see the same visuals and sequence of events in this video as in the viral video. Furthermore, in this longer video (30 seconds) we can also see the name of the channel mentioned – 1TV Kabul.

1TV Kabul is a private commercial Afghan television channel launched in February 2010.

Inspired by this, we checked out the official YouTube channel of 1TV Kabul and found the original video posted on June 10, 2016, with the caption translated into English as “Amaj Amaj – On Hekmatyar joining the Afghan government for peace controversial discussion of the process” ”

From the 25.15-minute time stamp, we can see the same fight that breaks out between the two panelists as seen in the viral video.

The focus of the debate is Hizbul Islam leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, who has been designated a “global terrorist” by the United States, which is participating in peace talks with the Afghan government. In September 2016, Hekmatyar formally signed a peace agreement with the Afghan government led by then-President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
