EU leaders stepped up sanctions on Iran after Iran carried out a missile attack on Israel, saying it was “very important to do everything possible to isolate Tehran”.
World powers moved on Wednesday to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East, ahead of a Brussels summit of leaders of the 27-nation European Union following Saturday’s attacks.
“We believe it is very important to do everything possible to isolate Iran,” summit chairman Charles Michel said, adding that new sanctions against the Islamic Republic would target companies involved in the production of drones and missiles.
Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said the situation in the Middle East was “very worrying”. “The UK is doing its part to try to de-escalate the situation as much as possible.”
