Agence France-Presse quoted Finnish police as saying that early on Tuesday, a 12-year-old child opened fire at a primary school in Finland, killing one child and seriously injuring two others. The minor who fired the shot was taken into custody shortly after the attack.
The victim was taken to hospital, a police spokesman told Reuters.
The shooting occurred at the Viertola school in Vantaa, a suburb of the capital Helsinki, which has about 800 students in grades one to nine and about 90 staff, according to the local municipal government.
Vietola school principal Sari Laasila told Reuters that “the immediate danger has passed” but declined to comment further on the incident.
