Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday (April 10) as the country did not see the Showar moon on Monday.

Saudi Arabian authorities on Saturday asked citizens to view the Shawal moon on the evening of April 8.

In a statement, the Saudi Supreme Court called on residents to report incidents of moon sightings and notify relevant authorities.

According to Sharia law, sightings can be made with the naked eye or binoculars, and the discovery must then be notified to the nearest court or center, Al Arabiya News reported.

Ramadan 2024 begins on March 11, and Muslims abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset.

Eid al-Fitr is one of the two main Eid events in the Islamic calendar and includes festivals, gatherings, prayers and gift-giving. This Eid is celebrated in the month of Shawwar and lasts for three days.

However, in Pakistan, the Meteorological Department predicts that the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr will be April 10 as the Chauwar moon is expected to be seen on April 9.

The PMD said that the new moon will be born at 11:21 pm on April 8 and mature between 19 and 20 hours before and after the Fajr prayers the next day.

The report added that the crescent moon can be observed for more than 50 minutes at sunset.
