New Delhi:
Former Congress spokesperson Rohan Gupta today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, marking yet another apparent election season defection of an opposition figure to the ruling party.
Rohan Gupta and a few other leaders were joined in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and his National Secretary Vinod Tawde of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Rohan Gupta lashed out at the Congress Party, with which he has been associated for nearly 15 years, saying that the Congress Party has become directionless and full of contradictions, leading to a loss of credibility.
He expressed his views citing the Congress party’s stance on a range of issues, including its decision not to attend the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple, its opposition to the CAA and its alliance with parties such as the AAP.
Rohan Gupta expressed support for the BJP leadership’s agenda to achieve ‘viksit Bharat’ by 2047 and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
Last month, he resigned from the Congress after withdrawing his candidacy from Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency.
Rohan Gupta blamed his decision on “continuous humiliation and character assassination by leaders associated with the Congress communications wing”.
Recently, another former Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh also joined the BJP.
